Day: 40 (September 30, 2012)
Xiang Xiang!
We added a new addition to our home recently!
A little local girl whose about 5 or 6 years old has come to live with us for a while. She doesn't speak any english so it has been fun practicing my language skills and just showing her lots of love. It is common for kids to live at school during the week and go home to their parents on the weekend. However, this week is a national holiday and she had no where to stay. Her mother is in another city with her little sister who is having heart surgery and we just found out her father past away last year. She is going to stay with us for 8 days over the holiday then on the weekends once they go back to School. The first day we were a little worried about how she would do. I can't imagine being picked up from school by a foreign man and taken to his house where everyone and everything is different. She had never met any of us until she got here. Linds, Josh and(sometimes) Lily are the only ones who can speak to her in her language. But Phil and I try anyways.
When she first got here I think it was really intimidating. It took her a few minutes
until she would open up just a little bit.
All the kids on the couch for a picture. |
She was so shy at first. |
We started to play a game with the ball.
Everyone would throw the ball and say
their name in her language. |
The game was a hit. |
By the end of the night she didn't seem so shy. |
All 10 of us at our first dinner together! |
Two Days later and She has so much life and Joy in her!!
Yummy! A chicken foot! |
I couldn't do it but John did! |
What a Party? |
This is such a Norm to see when at peoples homes.

It has been such a fun few days! I am eager to see what's next!
I'll keep you updated!
